Shihara’s Link collection is anchored in the concept of connection, and crafted using 18K circular links. The collection features a diverse array of links, including those of consistent size, those with a gradual variation in link dimensions, and designs adorned with exquisite diamonds. These circular links are interwoven one by one by the deft hands of skilled craftsmen.

The process of shaping these links starts with the winding of 18K wire into a rod-like structure. Initially, the gold undergoes annealing, a method that employs the application of heat from a gas burner to make it pliable. The winding speed and wire tension are balanced to create a spring-like structure.

Once the gold takes on this spring-like form, it is segmented into circular rings, each intentionally featuring deliberate gaps, using a specialized metal saw.

These circular rings are then linked together one at a time using pliers saw, beginning from the openings.

After the assembly of the links that will become an integral part of the necklace, they are immersed in a bath of dilute sulfuric acid to remove any tarnished, oxidized layers, thus restoring the luster of the 18K gold.

Subsequently, each gap is expertly welded together using a laser.

The quantity of links varies according to the design, with longer necklaces incorporating nearly 100 of them. The Link Collection reaches its culmination through the skilled artistry of these craftsmen.
